Final Project

 My Final Project

I believe young people learn when they are able to show up authentically to a space, have say in how and what they learn, and are empowered to take action in the community. I believe that the learning spaces i have co-created with the young people I serve reflect these values, but all of that goodness has always stayed within our classrooms. This past year really emphasized the need of parent involvement and support within our learning community as well as the desire of young people to have a digital platform.

This past year a few of my students were really into coding and the creation of their own technology toolkit. In that they made the country of Rasberya, where the path to citizenship depended on your relationship to anime and Takis. You could not like them, but you better keep that to yourself- a law created based off of our own community rule "you better not yuck someone else's yum".

Thinking about the ways my young people used technology to reflect what was happening inside the classroom and the values of our community I wanted to do that with our extended community even when we are fully in person next year. So I was thinking of using google sites, like many in our learning community, to create a space that all members of my school learning community can access. The site would include monthly messages about what young people are learning on the home page, a calendar of events, community recourses and opportunities, and then there would be pages for young people to display their learning our creativity. I think google sites would give allow me to be more creative and include more things for the community.

  1. Hey Zoey, couldn't agree with you more that parent involvement/support is very much needed within our learning community. How will parents expect heir kids to learn and have an expectation in their learning when they themselves have to interest in knowing that their child's learning and don't show support in their child's learning. Can't wait to learn more about your project as you continue to build on it!
